What does a dietitian eat? Healthy foods all the time? NO! Organic foods daily? NO! Super small portions? Nope! Dietitians are just like you! We have food days that are super healthy (fruits and veggies at every meal, lean proteins, alcohol free and no sweets!) and we have days that are not as healthy (think chocolate, beer and nachos). Check out my weekly weekend roundup posts so you can see what my weekend eats are all about!
Friday
Breakfast: 2% Coconut Siggi’s Yogurt with 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, 10 dark chocolate chips and a small banana. After a late night out at the Macy’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, I needed something easy on Friday morning. I threw this together and grabbed a banana on the way into work to give myself a serving of fruit.
Lunch: I still had some chili leftover from last week, so I put that into a to go container and that was my lunch again. I topped it with a few whole grain tostitos and a bit of cheddar cheese. I was starving by lunch time and forgot to take a picture until I was almost done with the chili!
Snack: Mediterra Sundried Tomato and Basil granola bar. I got this granola bar in a swag bag I received at a conference and was trying it for the first time today. I recently became interested in savory granola bars after a co-worker let me try one of hers. I wasn’t as into this one. It tasted fine, but I’m not sure I’d eat it again.
Dinner: Friday Funday was back on the schedule this week and we spent it in Jersey City instead of NYC! There was a Midnight Market in Jersey City and we got tickets to go and try some delicious eats for $5 a pop! After arriving and getting so excited about having all this food around me, we took a quick walk around to see what our options were. Our first choice was the Garlic Knot Sliders. OMGGGGGGG. Amazing. I got the chicken parm one and Bernie got the eggplant parm one. They were the perfect size for sampling.
Next up were some pierogies, we got three and split them.
We spotted a booth that was doing brunch on a stick, so of course we had to try one of those because brunch is the best. There were a few options, including quail eggs, which were super cute and small, but we went with the bacon wrapped in a pancake with a drizzle of syrup. YUMMO!
Here’s a peek at my main man chowing down on brunch on a stick.
Next up was The Guac Spot, which had a bunch of different things that featured my faveeeee…avocados. We got the avocado cream cannoli which had a chocolate bottom and maple bacon on the ends.
For our final savory item, we got the bacon mac and cheese. DELISH!
Then we ended the night with mini donuts! Which of course, I was in love with. So, it’s safe to say that we will be going back FOR SURE next time they are in town. I absolutely loved all the food and the serving sizes because it let me sample a few things, split them with Bernie and get a taste of a bunch of delicious items.
Saturday
Breakfast: I started my Saturday off with a brisk 4 mile run. About an hour after my run, I had planned to go to the Hip Fit class at JC Barre Studio, so I needed a little fuel before eating a full breakfast. I had one half of the packet of Kashi Honey Oat Flax granola bars. After class, I came home and made us English muffin egg sandies. I was obviously starving and forgot to snap a pic. They were made with whole grain English muffins, one egg over easy, 1 oz cheddar cheese and a few slices of red onion. MMMMM…
Lunch: We headed to Bernie’s dad’s house after that to have a birthday lunch. Lunch was a delicious spread of sandwiches and salads. I had one roast beef sandwich and one turkey sandwich without cheese and with only half the bread and a scoop or so of the cole slaw.
Dinner: We went out to dinner for Bernie’s Dad’s birthday as well. I had a few bites of his Caesar salad and a Blue Moon to start. I ordered the grilled chicken with roasted red peppers, white wine sauce, spinach and artichokes. It came with a small side of delicious mashed potatoes and some extra veggies. It was delicious!
Sunday
Breakfast: We ended up sleeping at Bernie’s Dad’s spontaneously, so I wasn’t able to exercise because I didn’t have anything with me in the morning and it also snowed a bunch overnight. We went out and got everyone bagels and I had a whole wheat everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. Usually I try to have a protein with my bagel, but I haven’t had cream cheese in so long, so I just decided to have that instead.
Dinner: Since I was pretty full from breakfast, we skipped lunch and had a slightly early dinner. I got a greek salad from a nearby diner and called it a night!
There ya have it! Another weekend of eats! Don’t forget to check in next week for more delicious food!
